Nutri-San is an innovative bio-technology company specialising in safe, sustainable, solutions for the animal feed and livestock farming industries.

We produce 100% natural feed supplements
made from a blend of sustainable seaweeds.

Our supplements promote optimal health, performance and condition in production and companion animals and reduce the need for antibiotics and other synthetic ingredients in feed.

Backed by research from our world-leading scientific partners, Nutri-San products are used by farmers and feed manufacturers across the world to support the general health and well-being of animals.

We let the results speak for themselves:

Animals whose feed includes Nutri-San seaweed supplements flourish.

We recognise that the health of animals, humans
and our shared ecosystem are interconnected.

Today, the need for integrated solutions that enable animals, people, and the planet to flourish has never been greater. Given the threats of climate change and disease resistance to antibiotics, these solutions are needed urgently and at scale.

Livestock farmers and feed manufacturers are looking for sustainable alternatives to improve the health of animals within the context of ever greater environmental challenges and the government regulations introduced to meet them. Increasingly, consumers want to know the story of the food they are eating and make informed decisions about it.

We recognise the importance of these trends and are responding to them.

Alongside our work in promoting animal health and nutrition, we are developing sustainable solutions to some of the environmental challenges faced by the businesses we support. Methane reduction in ruminants and nitrate run-off from poultry are high on our agenda and our world-class R&D teams are developing products to tackle these challenges.

Our mission: Feed. Flourish. Future.

We have a mission to provide alternative safe and natural feed ingredients that enable animals and humans to flourish while protecting our planet for future generations. For us, the idea of ‘flourish’ is not just about health. It is also at the heart of our commitment to support local communities.

Seaweed is nothing less than an environmentally
friendly nutritional powerhouse.

We now know that as well as providing essential vitamins and minerals, specific brown, green and red macroalgae contain bioactives that significantly improve gut health in animals, and natural components that can be used as an alternative to many of the synthetic additives commonly found in animal feed.

Some species such as the red seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis have the potential to reduce the methane emissions from ruminant livestock that are so damaging to our planet.  Even at very low inclusion rates the right blend of seaweeds added to the diet of cows or sheep delivers outstanding results.

As if this were not enough, seaweeds also grow prolifically without needing fertilizers, land or fresh water – and as they grow, they soak up carbon while de-acidifying and re-oxygenating the ocean.

Seaweed clearly has an important contribution to make in the search for solutions to some of the challenges facing the global farming industry.

So why are seaweed-based products
not used more extensively in animal feed?

For many years, bringing the benefits of seaweed to market has been a challenge. To make products available in volume and at scale involves going beyond ‘getting the science right’ to secure adequate supply and maintain consistency of performance and quality. Not easily achieved with a wild product that grows around the coastlines of the world. For some producers, cultivation has been a solution, but often one that is limited to ‘lab and tank’ systems that are cost-heavy, difficult to scale and unsuitable for delivering the quantity of seaweed biomass required to make a difference.

What makes Nutri-San unique is
our ability to get three things right.

  1. Access to sufficient volume of seaweed biomass globally – both wild and cultivated – with an existing infrastructure and supply chain to guarantee consistency and quality.
  2. Production at a price that is right for our customers and enables our products to be adopted by farmers and feed manufacturers.
  3. Formulas whose efficacy have been proven and validated by world-leading universities, rather than small in-house research teams.

We are ideally positioned to harness the nutritional power of seaweed and bring its benefits to our customers.

At the heart of our approach to CSR is the belief that we have a responsibility to each-other and our planet. To enable the world to flourish today and in the future, we need to be committed to making sustainability happen.

We are committed to playing our part
in helping the world flourish.

With careful stewardship, seaweed aquaculture has the potential to make a highly positive contribution to economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

Sustainable livelihoods.

We recognise that business and communities are inextricably linked and that in building a profitable, scalable, business we have a responsibility to those communities we source from and operate in.

We are committed to supporting local communities and enhancing producer livelihoods within them. Together with our supply chain partners we are working with coastal communities across The Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Zanzibar to provide safe, equitable and sustainable income-generating opportunities though seaweed aquaculture.

In many coastal and rural communities around the world, women play a significant role in seaweed harvesting and farming. Given this context, seaweed aquaculture represents an important economic opportunity with the potential to improve gender inequality and self-sufficiency for women.

Sustainable production.

We work with our partners in the seaweed supply chain to procure sustainably sourced seaweeds and address the key sustainability challenges of harvesting and cultivating seaweed while conserving marine habitats. When done well, these processes have a low environmental footprint and can offer important benefits to local ecosystems.

Some species of macroalgae grow prolifically and have the capacity for rapid biomass increase over short periods of time. While this regenerative growth can be positive, in some cases seaweed ‘bloom’ can prevent much needed sunlight from reaching marine life in shallow waters, harming biodiversity. In addition, a seasonal overabundance of seaweed on beaches and in shallow waters can negatively impact tourism, fishing, and other much needed economic activities that coastal communities rely upon.

Preventative harvesting of these ‘green tides’ – before the macroalgae has beached – has a positive impact on marine habitats and fragile coastal ecosystems and mitigates the negative impact on livelihoods.

Improved harvesting and farming practices are central to the development of a sustainable seaweed aquaculture that is in harmony with marine conservation objectives, supports livelihoods in coastal communities and provides stable and traceable sources of seaweed. Nutri-San works through and with our supply chain partners to encourage and maintain best practice and industry standards.

UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We aim to maximise our alignment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, the goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

We are actively working towards five key SDGs:

SDG 1 – No Poverty
Providing employment opportunities that will support and revitalise marginalised coastal communities within developing nations.

SDG 3 – Ensure Healthy Lives
Reducing/removing the need for synthetic antibiotics and growth promoters in animal feed by replacing them with our natural seaweed-blend products, delivering significant benefits to human health.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
Developing safe and sustainable employment in coastal areas and working to promote a new industry that improves self-sufficiency and provides economic opportunities for women.

SDG 13 – Climate Action
Creating a powerful new tool to counter methane emissions from ruminant livestock feed digestion, a key contributor to climate change.

SDG 14 – Life Below Water
Sustainably managing and developing marine resources and conserving the marine environment.

An on-going commitment.

We are proud that our commitment to sustainable practices and social responsibility has meant that we are certified with a .eco web domain. However, we recognise that this is ‘work in progress’ and our commitment to make a positive impact is ongoing.
